Uprzejmie zapraszamy na Środowiskowe Seminarium Fizyki Ciała Stałego i Seminarium ACMiN, które odbędzie się w środę 19 grudnia 2018 r. o godz. 9.00 w Sali Audytoryjnej ACMiN AGH na II piętrze budynku D-16 (ul. Kawiory 30).
Referat pod tytułem "Magnetic skyrmions: Nanoscale chiral particles for future information technologies?" wygłosi Dr Joo-Von Kim (Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnologies, Université Paris-Saclay, France).
Streszczenie:
Chiral symmetry breaking appears in many facets of the natural world, where phenomena related to left- and right-handedness can be distinct from one another. In magnetic systems, chiral interactions can stabilise certain spin configurations with intriguing properties. A prominent example are magnetic skyrmions, which represent nanometre-scale whirls of magnetic moments that appear in nanometre-thick ferromagnetic layers. In this talk, I will give an overview of the present research on skyrmions and the materials systems in which they have been observed. I will describe some aspects of their dynamics, which is strongly nonlinear and can exhibit processes such as spontaneous particle-antiparticle generation. Finally, I will discuss some perspectives for applications in information technologies, such as information storage, probabilistic computing and reservoir computing.
