The lecture entitled „Transition metal synthetic ferrimagnets: tunable media for All-Optical Switching driven by nanoscale spin current” will be given by Dr Maciej Dąbrowski (Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Exeter, United Kingdom).

Abstract:

All-optical switching (AOS) of magnetization allows magnetic bits to be written purely by optical laser pulses without any need for an external magnetic field. From the viewpoint of technological applications, rare-earth free synthetic ferrimagnets (SFi) are highly desirable due to the low cost and relative abundance of the constituent materials, and the unparalleled tunability. In this talk, I will demonstrate multi-pulse AOS in the SFi Ni3Pt/Ir/Co, achievable independently of the light polarization and across a broad temperature range. The constituent layers of the SFi are magnetically soft, which leads to unique static and dynamic magnetic properties. In particular, I will discuss a negative remanence state and transfer of spin angular momentum between the ferromagnetic layers, the key elements for the AOS. The talk will also include our group’s advances in the measurement of AOS in other materials.
